A Brief History of Reading Strategies
This brief history in four parts is designed to illuminate the use of meaning based reading (whole word/ whole language) and the use of sound based reading (phonetic/alphabetical) through the ages.
Although brief and simplified, this report will explain why some systems were preferred at different times and why both systems are so important today.
